Denise Moore

MA VetMB CertV Ophthal MRCVS VN

Denise Moore worked in the Ophthalmology Department at the RVC London for 8 years, firstly as a resident then as a staff clinician and lastly as a consultant in Veterinary Ophthalmology prior to joining Grove Lodge. Denise obtained her Certificate in Ophthalmology in 1995 and is presently studying towards both the British and European Diplomas in Veterinary Ophthalmology.

Denise is interested in every aspect of ophthalmology and will see any eye case in any animal species no matter how big or small. She is especially interested in cataract surgery, routinely performing phacoemulsification. This technique has fewer post-operative complications than manual extracapsular extraction (the previous surgical technique) and has a success rate of 85-95% compared with 60-65% for manual extraction. Denise also inserts synthetic, foldable, intra-ocular lenses to improve the animal’s vision post surgery and to reduce the degree of ‘after cataract’ development.

Denise sees elective cases at our Worthing hospital on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, but is available to see emergency cases out of hours during weekdays and weekends. Denise is also available to give advice on her mobile at any time.

The Ophthalmology Referral service is fully equipped with operating microscope, ERG (electroretinogram), ultrasound, full surgical instrumentation and state-of-the-art facilities for cataract surgery.
