Babis graduated from the Aristotle University Veterinary School (AUVS), Thessaloniki, Greece in 1998. After spending time as an intern and working in small animal practice, he completed a PhD in feline cardiomyopathies at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh in 2003. He then did a residency at the Royal Veterinary College in small animal cardiology and ran a busy referral clinic for cardiorespiratory disease between 2003-2006. Babis became diplomate of the European College of Internal Medicine (Cardiology) in 2007
Babis is a world expert in novel echocardiographic techniques (tissue Doppler imaging), has spoken at many international veterinary congresses and acted as a reviewer for various veterinary journals.
